Mother's Day = Flowers. Right?

I'm allergic to flowers. I know that's lame, but I am. So even though my mom enjoys them, when I'm spending Mother's Day with my mom in close quarters (say... a hotel room?) I'm not inclined to buy her flowers.

However...

There will be flowers for Mother's Day. Of the homemade sort.

Since I'm moving on Tuesday, I don't have many groceries to work from. For today's project, I used leftover candy melts to make some things that closely resemble flowers. Last night I moved my frozen pound cake from the freezer to the fridge and voila!

A Mother's Day plate of pound cake (one of my Mom's absolute favorite desserts -- hopefully this recipe passes muster!) and purple (also Mom's favorite) and orange flowers. How can this go wrong?

With the addition of this sweet heart, I submit that nothing can go wrong.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom in specific and your mom in general.

Cute flowers, though I really wish they weren't Clemson colors.

YAY! They're so cute.

Was the pound cake the chocolate chip sour cream pound cake you made before? Cuz I used your recipe and made it for our mother's day luncheon! YUM! Although I couldn't find the chocolate/caramel chips. I think it would've been better with those!

Did you check facebook for the french toast pic?

I think it's great you found a compromise. Mom always should have flowers for Mother's Day.

Also, congratulations on your graduation : )

Evan: Funny... didn't even know those were Clemson colors.

RedDeer: Thanks! She did. Pound cake always works. :)

Casey's Wifey: I'm so glad you and your family like the pound cake too! This was, in fact, the same pound cake from before. The freezing didn't even seem to harm it. I'll have to check facebook for the pic. :)

Kate: Thanks, Kate! Graduation/Hooding post to follow...

It looks great - definitely full of love, I'll bet it was a smash hit.

Love the flowers especially, I can't get colored candy melts here anymore. Apparently the importer had some kind of grief with the customs officials a few years ago and that was that.

BTW. I double checked with my mom and her mom used to boil fiddleheads and my mom says they are so good that way.

Robin: That bothered customs official is clearly not a baker/decorator or the recipient of fantastic candies or baked goods! Hopefully that gets resolved. :)

Slice: Haha... I found it! :) I did find a bunch of "just boil them" recipes, but I figured that would be bland. I figured wrong!
